RSE
Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) gives students the information they need to help them develop healthy, nurturing relationships of all kinds, not just intimate relationships. It helps them know what a healthy relationship looks like and what makes a good friend, a good colleague and a successful committed relationship. Learning around respect and tolerance for all, including LGTBQ+ rights.
Sex education is learning about the emotional, social and physical aspects of growing up, relationships, sex, human sexuality and sexual health. Learning will include facts about reproductive health, strategies for identifying and managing sexual pressure including understanding peer pressure, resisting pressure and not pressuring others.
Learning focuses on understanding:
-
some of the social changes that occur at puberty
-
the notion of privacy and appropriate public behaviour
-
each student’s own growth and changes at puberty and offering reassurance
-
protecting and respecting the personal space and boundaries of others
Parents/carers are notified in writing prior to RSE lessons and invited to parent sessions where the exact nature of the curriculum is discussed and resources shared so they can be used at home.
We work with parents to provide resources around elements of puberty as well as reinforcing the concepts of public and private. We hold parent workshops as well as 1:1 parent sessions on topics as the need arises.
Parents and carers have the right to withdraw students and this should be discussed with the Headteacher in the first instance.
